Community Schools
When a student's basic needs aren't met for any reason, learning can be difficult. The purpose of our Community Schools initiative is to assist struggling students and their families to navigate accessing resources in our community while also providing essential resources right from our schools. We have "Hubs" located in seven of our schools that provide food, hygiene, and clothing items to students and families as they need them. Our Community Schools Coordinators have quickly become invaluable members of our Tumwater family as they work diligently to help remove barriers to learning and connect families with available community resources. Help can come in many different forms: no-cost immunization clinics, free sports physicals, providing school supplies, food, clothing, hygiene items, assisting families with navigating community resources to access emergency housing, job assistance, child care, health care, and more.
With several years of this partnership, we are seeing positive results for our families and their children's success in schools because of this important work.
